An urgent request for help…

Dear Friend,
We want to alert you to Bill C-484, “Unborn Victims of Crime Act” – a bill that will endanger not only abortion rights, but the rights of pregnant women, and the constitutional rights of women in general. By a narrow margin, Bill C-484 passed second reading in Parliament on March 5, 2008. The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights will begin to review the bill as early as mid-April, and may recommend that it proceed to a final vote in Parliament. To date, well over 7,000 individuals have signed our petition to express their concerns, and many people have written to their MPs. We want to thank you for any action you have taken to oppose this bill.
Much work remains to be done to defeat this bill. Those opposed to women’s reproductive rights and in particular, abortion rights, are lobbying hard to have this bill passed into law. This must not happen.
ARCC’s work is carried out by volunteers and our only source of funding is through membership and donations. The work involved to defeat Bill C-484 has depleted our financial resources and the cost of opposing this Bill continues to grow. We need your help.
ARCC immediately needs financial resources to finance the following expenses:
- Travel costs to attend Committee meetings in Ottawa and lobby MPs
- Translating materials into French
- Sending updates and alerts to supporters
- Creating a special edition of the newsletter
- Printing and mailing costs
- Sending press releases
- Updating our website
- Legal fees (if applicable)
As a national organization, it is imperative that ARCC be present when the Standing Committee meets in Ottawa. Would you please help us continue fighting Bill C-484 by sending a donation today or by becoming a member of ARCC?
